But, I'm writing this on Thursday and we are, indeed, at the lake! It’s opening week and we've drained the antifreeze out of the pipes, filled the cupboards and uncovered the air conditioner for the summer.
You know, it's amazing how much more relaxed I am here, how much more relaxed we both are here. I woke up early this morning to write, and we had a leisurely breakfast and then we got busy in the yard, weeding and trimming, before we reset the border bricks behind the cottage. Most of them have been here since long before our time and were pretty much buried, but Husband used a pry bar and a hammer and pulled them out of the dirt. Then I cleaned them off, filled in where they’d been and reset them. It looks pretty good for a couple of old farts doing the job. We got about 2/3 of the way down our 70 feet of back border and called it day. We’ll finish on Saturday. There’s no urgency…
And that's the beauty of the lake--no urgency. Seriously. we are so laid
back here. We took it slow and easy. We simply worked and it was nice. I drove
the golf cart for the first time this season as we took my buckets of weeds up
to the compost heap. The deck is next—it needs new floorboards but that's for another day, too. After we dropped off
the weeds, we went down to the lake and I stuck my hand in--it actually felt
pretty warm, but I know that's just the first few inches. I'm sure the deeper
you go, the colder it is! But I can't wait to swim, so I hope it warms up
quickly. Summer means lake swimming and boating and wine on the deck with friends and family.
We came in after our work, ate lunch, and showered in anticipation of going with a gang of
pals to a restaurant down on the river below the dam tonight. Husband’s never
been there before, but friends Moe and Kim took me last December after my books
signing at Whyte Horse Winery. The bartender was a fun guy who bought me a
glass of Jameson in honor of my book signing, so I’m looking forward to seeing
Don again and introducing him to Husband. We haven’t seen Kim and Ken since
last fall when they bought our old Mercedes, so nothing but good times ahead.
It’s almost time to start promoting Book 2 in the Weaver Sister trilogy—Meet Me in River’sEdge. It’s Jo and Alex’s story and I gotta tell you—I love these two. They are both wounded in their own way and need each other so much. Their HEA makes my heart flutter. (You think it’s okay for the author’s heart to flutter over her own words? Or if so, should I be admitting such a thing?) Anyway, more on Jo and Alex next week… until then…
Stay well, be kind, and smile at someone today--they'll appreciate it!
Nan
