A romantic weekend away

It's Monday and I'm not here yet. Because I'm not home yet. So here I am in a motel dining room somewhere in southern Indiana. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, a great weekend. We did, though, yes, I'm ready to be home.

Life often isn't like a romance novel--have you noticed?--but sometimes, just every once in while, it is. For example, here is part of the great room in the house our family rented over the weekend.
And then, here is the house we visited while we were away for the weekend.
And then, this is my son and grandkids at the house we stayed in making homemade pizza and laughing really hard.
And my daughter and daughter-in-law being lovely and silly while they finished cleaning the turkey off the carcass. (The romance part comes in where I didn't have to help.)

My dining area isn't as neat as the one in the rental house. The Biltmore estate is well beyond anything within the scope of my imagination. But the table full of laughing pizza makers and the strong, smart women undressing the turkey? Yeah, that's my inspiration, whether it's found in North Carolina's beautiful mountains or at home in our own backyard. Family and fun--those are not only what I write about, they're the reason I do it.

Good times. I hope you're having them, too.

  2. Liz, now I'm more jealous than ever! Every time I visit Biltmore, I want to write a story set there! Your rental house is gorgeous, too! Sounds like you had a beautiful Thanksgiving--but I have to agree, there's no place like home! :-)

  3. Thanks, Anna. The Biltmore was fabulous for sure, and we loved the house, too. It's the Smokies, though, that capture my heart every time we go that way!

    1. Thanks, Margie. The Biltmore is--I think--the largest "private home" in the country and it is extraordinary. The grounds, though, are spectacular.
