Too Stupid To--Look! Squirrel

In the writing world, we have something we call, "too stupid to live characters". You've met them, they're the ones who die early in a horror movie.

I went to see the new Jason Bourne movie on Tuesday and while it was good--not great, sorry Matt--there was a returning character who did such stupid stuff she didn't deserve to last the movie. I just kept thinking, "You've been working for Treadstone (the ultra-secret CIA program of assassins) and you don't realize they have the ability to track you through street cams???? Disguise yourself!"

On the other hand, at Jordan's insistence, I watched "Stranger Things" on Netflix. It takes place in 1983--great soundtrack--with a cast of Goonie-worthy kids who play D&D until one of them goes missing and a girl with strange powers shows up. If you want a creepy look back at the 80's, this is the show for you.

Plus, the characters are pretty wise. They don't do stupid stuff that gets them killed unnecessarily or make the viewers question their brain power. In fact, when two of the kids go monster-hunting, I was pretty impressed by their ingenuity and planning.

Yesterday, while watching Stranger Things, I also baked cookies--Brown Butter Salted Caramel Snickerdoodles. Oh my yumminess! I actually think the caramel could be dropped and they'd still be amazing. That brown butter flavor is so distinctive.

Here's the link, if they sound good to you.

I think if anything good comes out of our presidential race, it should be that they shorten the primary season to less than a year. As sick of politics as I am, I still find myself seeking them out. I think it's like watching a National or world disaster--it sickens you, but on the other hand, you can't turn away.

Maybe I should've warned you up front that I have a headache and can't seem to focus. Oh well...

Have a great Thursday!

  1. Train wreck--that's what the political scene is to me this year. And I'm going to make those cookies. They sound wonderful! Hope your headache is better, Margie!

    1. Thank you. And it feels like we've been stuck in a political time loop. Star Trek should take note 😃

  3. Yes, there should be a limit or time frame which candidates are allowed to campaign. I thought some of the past elections held poor choices as candidates go, but this year is downright scary. I read last weeks blog and enjoyed that one too.

    1. Thank you, Bonnie! I think one of the reasons this campaign cycle seems endless--not just because it is--but also because it's been so negative.
