A Canadian Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

No, I haven’t misread the calendar. I’m in Canada and this weekend is Thanksgiving up here. I’m sure my Canadian forefathers chose the October date rather than adopting the American custom of Thanksgiving in November because 1.) harvest comes earlier here, by necessity, and 2.) they wanted to give us a nice long weekend before the snow and cold arrived. Very thoughtful of them, I say. Some years, it can be full-on winter by the end of November.

I’m glad the snow hasn’t arrived yet because we’re travelling some 600 km. this weekend to visit family and I hate icy roads. (Actually, by the time you read this, we should already be there.) I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be fun getting together with everyone. After all, Thanksgiving is a time for being with family and friends. Not to mention cooking tons of food and eating way too much. Or maybe that’s just me.

I have much to be thankful for. I’ve got good health and a wonderful family. I'm thankful that I was asked to join Word Wranglers and have been given the opportunity to meet new friends. I'm thankful that I’ve been given a creative mind that loves to tell stories. Writing is my passion and my joy. I’m truly blessed.

No matter when you celebrate, I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Don’t forget to count your blessings.

  5. Thanks everyone! As it turned out there has been a significant snowfall. Not so much here where we're staying with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, but quite a bit further north where my daughter lives. Hopefully we won't get much more this weekend! But despite the snow, we're having a wonderful time with family.
