It's Finally Finished!

After what seems like months (because it was - mid-March to the end of May) my kitchen reno is finally complete. Halleluiah! No more workmen traipsing in and out of my house, and no more waiting for workmen who don’t show up when they said they would. The painters were the last piece of the puzzle and they did a decent job, but they were messy. I spent a lot of time picking spots of paint off my floors and furniture. Not impressed.

But it’s done. This has been the most extensive reno my husband and I have ever embarked on, and I’m pretty sure it’ll be the last one. Next time I want a new kitchen, I think we’ll just move!
I’m looking forward to life getting back to some semblance of normal. And I’m also looking forward to moving ahead to a new step in my writing career. Very soon I’ll be sending the first book of the series I plan to self-publish to my editor. It’s going to be a busy summer!

During this very busy summer, I want to make sure to take time for self-care. I talked about Me Time in a previous blog post, and to that end I’ve made an appointment for a massage as well as a spa day with my husband. We didn’t have time to celebrate our anniversary in May, so this will be a combination anniversary/Father’s Day celebration for us. I’m looking forward to a little relaxing.

Last week I talked about conferences, such as which conference I should go to, or whether I should go at all. I got a lot of great suggestions and opinions from commenters. I think I’ve made a decision. I’m going to go to the 20 Book Conference for indie authors in Los Vegas in November, though I haven’t had a chance to book yet. It seems to be the best conference for me right now. I’m also going to a writing retreat in November with my author friends like the one I went to in early April, so it’s going to be a very busy month. But a fun one!

When you read this, I’m going to be on the road. My husband and I are headed to Minneapolis for a Tom Petty concert, something that’s been on his bucket list for awhile. So I may not have a chance to respond right away. And to my fellow Word Wranglers, I’m so sorry I haven’t commented on your blogs this week. It’s just been a crazy busy week. But now that the renos are done, I promise to be a better Word Wrangler in the future! Have a great weekend everyone!

    1. It was so much fun! Total sell-out, people smoking weed in the audience. It was the 70s all over again, except most of us were much older!

    1. Thanks Ava. We're pretty pleased, but really glad it's over! You know the saying, no pain, no gain? I think that definitely applies to renovations!

  3. Love your new kitchen! Looks like something the Property Bros would do ;)

I'm glad you were able to make a conference selection that's best for you.

The reason I chose Surrey in 2003 was because the exchange rate was the opposite and it was cheaper to drive to BC, stay in a hotel, and attend the conference than to stay at home, drive across the river, and attend one day at Willamette Writer's Conference. LOL

    1. Thanks Margie! One think I learned during the renovation is that although I love watching all those reno shows, I am definitely not much of a designer!

Like I said, I haven't actually booked the conference in Vegas. I'll be looking into that this week. If you're interested in Surrey, the Canadian dollar is low right now, making your lovely American dollars go pretty far up here. The conference opened for registrations on June 1 so if you want to attend, I recommend getting on it pronto. Last year the conference sold out!
