Hey there, WordWrangler Readers! I have a new release this month - the second in my new Slippery Rock series! It's called Rebel in a Small Town...and I'm so excited about it because two of my favorite tropes are involved: a secret baby and a reunion romance! James and Mara were childhood sweethearts who began a secret affair just out of college...and when things got sticky (as in, she fell in love!) Mara got scared and ran away...now she's back. And she's got a secret...but the two of them are going to have to fight through some past issues to make things work. One of my favorite things about this book is that the rebel isn't who you might think - most people associate rebels with guys. But Mara plays the rebel in this particular book. She was the ring-leader of their merry band throughout school - leading the pranks, coming up with plans, and (according to a few disapproving older souls) leading James and the other guys in their circle astray.
What was fun about writing Mara was getting to know just why she was so 'rebellious' - it wasn't because she hated her life, it was because she was uncomfortable in it. She's a bit of a brainiac (she even skipped a grade in high school), and both she and Collin were severely neglected before coming to Slippery Rock to live with their grandparents.
As an adult, Mara is the picture of a steady, capable adult. She has a good job, is respected in her field...but she's still got guilt about the way she left Slippery Rock, the way she left James, and the way she's avoided the rest of her family...and helping her find her happily ever after - which includes a healthy dose of self-worth - was so much fun.
I love reunion romances - the idea that a couple who didn't get things right can have a second chance to right those wrongs? It just melts my heart!
What about you? Are you a fan of reunion romances? ~Kristina
Blurb for Rebel in a Small Town:
He's not giving up his
family without a fight
James Calhoun has never been able to resist Mara Tyler, or
her knack for mischief. Her reputation as a reckless teenager drove Mara from
their hometown. So Slippery Rock is the last place James ever expected to see
her, and Mara's timing couldn't be worse. With the upcoming election for
sheriff, she threatens the squeaky-clean image James needs to win. Because Mara
has brought with her the result of their steamy affair: his two-year-old son,
Zeke. After the initial shock, James is determined to have both his family and
career. He just needs to convince Mara that her home is where it's always been.
With him.

ReplyDelete:D I hope you enjoy your trip back, Liz!
DeleteCongrats! I think reunions are one of my favorite tropes too. I just finished Boardwalk Summer by Kimberly Fisk that had both those in it.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look that one up, Margie!
DeleteOhh, I can't wait to read this one!
