Let it go...

The title of this post is the name of a perfectly lovely song that has been over-played, over-exposed, and over-everything else. It's also the phrase Duane used to me yesterday--several times--when I complained about changing times. I despise the time change. I don't care whether we're on Eastern, Central, or Southwest Lilliputian time, just leave it alone! My husband, on the other hand, doesn't mind the time change nearly as much as he minds the fact that I just won't let it go.

Which leads me to other things.

  • Bad reviews.
  • Weather.
  • The other side of the political aisle.
  • The church across town whose doctrine and signs drive you nuts.
  • Death and...
  • ...taxes.
Which in turn leads me to different other things.
  • The card you forgot to send.
  • The apology you've owed for years.
  • The bags in the laundry room that need to go to recycling, Goodwill, and the women's shelter.
  • Saying "I love you" and "you are so cool" and "I want to help" and "I'm so sorry this has happened to you" to those who need to hear it.
  • The laugh out loud and...
  • ...a hug.
The first list is, you got it, of things you should let go. So...just do. We'll wait over here in the corner while you go into the bathroom and scream really loud if that's what it takes.

The other list is, you got it, too!--of things you shouldn't let go. Of things it's never too late to do.

How about you? Do you have lists of your own? Go ahead and take care of them, then go out and have the best week ever--who cares what time it is?

  1. great post, Liz, and thanks for the reminder! I was so looking forward to the time change, strictly because it means we're nearing spring, but yesterday I was kind of a zombie. Today will be a better day!

    1. I'm still moving slow, Kristi--takes me a lot longer to catch up these days. But you're right--today will be a better day!

  2. I hate the time change but all I can do is bitch for a couple days, then get over it....until it happens again in the fall. You can't "save" daylight, you can only manipulate it in a way that pleases some and irks others. As the old Indian said, "only white men think they can cut an inch off the top of the blanket and sew it to the bottom to make a longer blanket". I've changed all the clocks. Soon it will seem like nothing every happened.

    1. I get used to it, but it takes me a few weeks. I just wish someone else--and we both know who I mean --would have listened to the Indian!

  3. Great post and very true, Liz. I just wish we could pick a time zone and stick to it. DST seems so pointless to me, but I'm 3 hours different from my kid no matter what, so who cares? Good lists--thanks for the reminders!

    1. I don't care WHAT time zone we're in--it's the change I mind. And Duane just minds my complaining. :-)

  4. I don't work at a grownup job anymore, so my only annoyance is actually changing the clocks. I'm short and it's hard to get them back on the wall.

    1. Most of mine are electronic. Duane changes the grandfather clock. It's the change that makes me mad--every time!

  5. I really wish the whole time change thing would go away. You are right in that there are more important things to consider. As for bad weather? We can't change it. I relish the rain here as we've been in a drought. Rationing water is not fun. So enjoy weather!

    1. I just never worry about weather. I don't like it all, but it's not something some "forward-thinking" man has forced on me--makes a difference. :-)

  6. Anyone within five block of me knows I hate the time change, especially this one. I lose an hour of sleep and that makes me crabby. Well, this time I didn't because I stayed in bed untli 8:30 this morning, which is unheard of unless I'm sick.
Maybe by this time next week I'll stop complaining.

  7. Love both your lists, Liz. You nailed it. About the time change--I always look forward to when the time springs forward. I enjoy the extra daylight hours. I'm not a person who likes the indoors, so when we fall back in time for the winter months it gives me the blahs. The down side to the longer daylight hours is I want to be outside so I procrastinate with my writing. Oh well, can't have everything.

  8. Love this. Thanks, Liz. I'm against fooling with mother nature. We should leave things as they were meant to be. Am I grumpy today? Ha ha.

  9. Great post, Liz. I'm with you, I hate the time change. I live in the North and the time change doesn't save any daylight up here. We just change it so we can stay on the same time as the rest of North America.
I love your lists. Thanks. I'll have to remember them.

    1. It really does stay light later here. By midsummer, I've been known to go to bed before full dark; of course, it's definitely full dark for an hour or two after I get up!

  10. Great post! There are a LOT of things we need to just let go. Once we do, we'll be much happier people.

  11. Loved the list! There are definitely things we should let go---and never let go :) Thanks for the reminder.

  12. Time changes disrupt my rhythm for at least a week because the sun rises and sets at the "wrong" time, but the real reason I hate it is I have to change the clock in my car. It must have taken me 10 minutes to figure it out again this morning. Every time I read the manual, and every time I just keep pushing buttons until I accidentally get it right. Oh, those wily Italians!

    1. LOL. Duane & I were laughing because the time is so easy to change in my car that I never want to trade it! (I'm safe in saying that because the first time I have trouble with a car, I'm all ready to trade, but I do love how things work in my Equinox.)

  13. Time change usually doesn't affect me much, although the fall back one always upsets my dog as she thinks she needs to eat an hour earlier.

I'm an old pro at letting stuff go--art of the procrastinator. But, seriously, if I don't have control over it--time change, the weather...--I find it pointless to spend time complaining/stressing about it :)
